It is remarkable that the early Christian texts name John the Baptist as the greatest prophet of all time, and proceed to tell us almost nothing about him.

That only makes sense as he is completely overshadowed by his little cousin Jesus, about whom the early Christians cannot stop talking and writing. Everything that came before, including John, is only an appetizer, an amuse-bouche. Jesus himself is the main course, the whole enchilada, the all-you-can-eat buffet and save room for dessert.
